Allow me to formally introduce myself: I am K.B. Dawg. Seriously-that's my name. My owner, who thinks I'm greater than white bread, bestowed it upon me. I happen to agree with Timmy's opinion even if it makes me sound conceited. Humility may be required in order to keep one's ego in check but facts don't lie: I'm awesome. What makes me such an unusual specimen? I'm blue. Actually, the correct word would be aqua-a soothing aqua blue that just makes you want to pick me up and give a big old hug and squeeze. My fluffy coat is cloudy soft and perfect for cuddling. I'm quite irresistible, if I do say so myself. Even though I'm "only a stuffed animal", you'd have to search the world over to find another as unique as I.
Up until not too long ago, I lived with Timmy's grandma. Her name is Granny Myra and lives up the road a piece from Timmy's house. He spends a lot of time at Granny's because she loves to love on him. Actually, the real reason is because Timmy's folks work a lot and they stash him there. He doesn't seem to mind since her main goal in life is to spoil him. It's a sacrifice but if it helps his parents out...
Every day after school, Timmy races to Granny's house, eager to see what she has for a snack. I'm not too familiar with the whole school thing but Timmy says that he works so hard, his brain gets tired-and hungry. By the time he flops down on Granny's couch, the only thing he's interested in is whatever she's been baking. Delectable aromas of gooey chocolate chip cookies, caramel apples that stick to Timmy's hands, and tart cherry pies fresh from the oven permeate the house, making my mouth water.
As he digs in, Granny asks about his day. I think this is Timmy's favorite part of being at Granny's: she really listens to him. She's interested in all the details, hanging on every word like he's the most important thing in the world. Even when she gets up to give him another cookie (Hey- can't anyone toss one to the dog?), she never loses track of the conversation.
One day during snack time, Timmy was seriously troubled. His teacher told all the kids to write a paragraph about their pets. Timmy's parents never let him have animals because they said they didn't have time to care for them. No matter how hard he begged, his parents were adamant on the subject. Fat tears slid down Timmy's face as he poured his heart out to Granny.
"What am I going to do?" he cried. "I'll be the only one in the whole class with nothing to write about and all the kids will laugh at me."
"Did your teacher say it had to be a real pet?" said Granny, seriously contemplating the dilemma.
"Well...no, she really didn't say it HAD to be..."
Granny immediately brightened. "Timmy, sometimes we just need to get creative. Let's think about it and see what we can come up with."
Timmy screwed up his face and thought so hard, he decided his brain was tired again and reached for another cookie. "But Granny, I just can't make up a pet..."
"Why don't you walk around the house and see if you can come up with anything."
Looking quite uncertain, Timmy started to wander aimlessly from room to room when he let out a shout.
"I found it!" he yelled. Thundering into the kitchen, Timmy's eyes were shining and tears long forgotten as he excitedly shared his idea with Granny. They got to work and a little while later, I was born
Not only did Timmy gain a new BFF, his unique way of solving the problem earned him an "A" on his paragraph.
What Timmy found was a tissue dispenser made of fluffy aqua material that looked like a dog. By replacing the tissue box with a block of foam rubber, the lifeless piece of material with ears, a tail, and a smile became ME. And if your curious about the name, K.B. stands for Kleenex box...

And a BTW: teachers who base assignments on assumptions (and unfortunately there are some) need to get a little more creative themselves. If I got that assignment I'd have to write about the dust bunnies under my bed.
Love the blue pet.
