Synopsis: Nothing is more important than getting alone with God. This is a lighthearted look at one Mom’s alone time.
Cast: One female- Mom Offstage voices- Older daughter/ Lisa, Younger daughter/ Jenny, Dad
Props: One non-descript stool, Bible and other devotional books
Setting: General Stage
Scripture: Luke 4:42
[Scene opens- Mom sitting on a stool, reading her Bible. A few other devotional books scattered on the floor.]
[Mom intently reading for several moments before dialogue begins]
Lisa: Mom, I think that Kevin needs a diaper change.
Mom: Sweetheart, would you change him for me, please?
Lisa: Alright. Come on Kevin let’s get you out of that thing.
[Closing her eyes and shooting up a popcorn prayer]
Mom: Thank you Lord for giving me such a helpful and responsible daughter.
[Returns to reading]
[A beat]
Jenny: Mom! Jeffy took my doll! He’s swinging her around on a rope! Make him leave my stuff alone!
Mom: Go tell your dad, Honey. He’ll take care of it.
Jenny: I already did. He just laughed.
Mom: Tell your dad that I said it isn’t funny when Jeffy is mean to your special doll and tell Jeffy that I said to give you your doll back.
Mom: Lord, I know that it’s just a stage but, please, help the twins to get along with each other.
Jenny: He said that he was sorry!
Mom: Jeffy said that he was sorry?
Jenny: No! Daddy said that he was sorry. Jeffy said, “ Nyah, Nyah…You’re a baby. Here’s your stupid doll.”
Mom: I’ll talk with Jeffy.
[back to reading]
Lisa: Mom, Aunt Shelia is on the phone.
Mom: Tell her I’ll call her back in a little while.
[popcorn prayer]
Mom: Lord, I know that Shelia is hurting but I don’t know what else to say to her. She needs to come back to you, Lord. Please, help her to find her way back.
Lisa: Mom, Kelly wants to know if I can go with her to the mall. May I?
Mom: OK Honey. Be home by eight.
Lisa: OK, See you later. Love you.
[popcorn prayer]
Mom: Lord, keep her safe and help her to make wise choices.
Jenny: Mom! I have to use the bathroom.
Mom: OK, I’ll be out in just a minute.
[begins picking up books]
Dad: What are you doing in there, taking a bubble bath?
Mom: (smiling) Thanks for the bubble bath, Lord.
[Lights out}
