Exodus 13:17-22
Little children, awestruck gazing,
At the sight before their eyes,
Strained eyes stared at sight amazing
Shining in the darkening skies.
And they felt their parents’ rev’rence
Bowed with them in holy fear,
Knowing in their hearts the real sense
That their God was very near.
Questions formed upon their young lips.
Asking ‘What’ and ‘How’ and ‘Why’.
Tho’ they’d learned through many hardships
That there was a God on high.
Now viewing the fiery column
They began to understand
With young hearts, sincere and solemn,
God would guide them with His hand.
Fiery pillar, like a finger,
Pointing Heavenwards every night.
And through daylight hours would linger
Mighty cloud to guide them right.
So God led His people clearly,
Their responsibility:
Obey and follow Him who dearly
Loved them all so faithfully.
Heavenly signpost, never failing
To direct the path they trod.
And the enemy assailing
Could not harm the loved of God.
Surging forward, God own army
Day and night moved as He planned.
Times of light, times dark and stormy,
Heading for the Promised Land.
Years have passed since when they faltered
Through their journey long ago.
But the truth remains unaltered
God will guide, His way He’ll show.
Like small children bow in reverence,
Loving Him with holy fear.
Knowing in our hears the real sense
That our God is always near.
