If Jesus was never incarnated,
For how would good and bad be understood
Except we saw God’s standard demonstrated?
Man had Scripture which he disregarded,
Built systems based on vain philosophy;
The truth was trampled down, discarded—
From God’s restraints man wanted to be free!
But freedom without truth is delusion;
The selfishness of man knows no restraint;
“Man’s inherent goodness” is illusion,
He’ll self-destruct without the Law’s constraint.
The Law is God’s standard of perfection,
It’s our tutor, designed to lead to Christ,
Absolute instruction and correction—
In its obedience God gives man life.
Man is fallen, unable to obey;
Sin rules our nature and the Law condemns,
But in Christ Jesus, God has made a way
To redeem and restore repentant men.
In the fullness of time the Saviour came
And perfectly fulfilled the Law’s demands
On our behalf, in God the Father’s name—
Jesus Christ the incarnate Son of Man.
Our trespasses atoned for by His blood—
This Gospel truth all the redeemed profess—
Through faith in Him the bad are all made good
For God imputes to us Christ’s righteousness.
