Synopsis: All of our best efforts won’t get us anywhere if we forget the essentials. This is a lighthearted look at making bad choices.
Cast: Two females Gretchen and Stacy
Props: A list, suitcase packed with various clothing items.
Setting: General stage
Scripture: Matthew 25:3
[Stacy checking over her suitcase with list in hand]
Stacy: Let me see….I think that I have just about everything. Yep, I’ve got my swimsuit – ‘Brand Spanky New’ and perfect for relaxing around the pool. I’ve got the world’s most divine evening dress for my evening at the Theatah….[talking with herself in the mirror and gesturing with her hands] “Wherever did you get that lovely gown??! You look exquisite my dear!
[Gretchen walks into the room in the middle of her mirror play acting]
Gretchen: [laughing at the scene] Oh yeah! She’s excited, alright!
Stacy: Umm…just having a little fun. Who wouldn’t be excited? This is going to be the trip of a lifetime. I have been saving for this trip for over three years. I haven’t been able to sleep. I have been so exciting. And just think tomorrow I will be getting on the plane!
Gretchen: I’m just teasing. This is exciting. A trip to Italy! You had better take loads of pictures. I can’t wait to at least experience it vicariously through you.(laughing)
Stacy: I almost forgot my camera!
Gretchen, help me check my things. The last thing that I want to do is to get there and then have to spend all of my extra money on things that I forgot to bring.
Gretchen: Sure thing! Let me see your list. So, have you got all of your personal items, shampoo, hairspray, toothpaste?
Stacy: Yes, I put all of that in my carry on bag just in case they lose my luggage or something.
Gretchen: What about clothes? Did you bring a mix of warm weather and cooler weather clothes?
Stacy: I have so many clothes! I’ll be lucky if I can get them all in the suitcases.
Gretchen: Did you bring an extra bag for the things that you’ll buy while you are over there?
Stacy: I don’t have to. I am going to go to the post office and mail all of my dirty laundry back to myself so I don’t have to pay for an extra bag on the return trip.
Gretchen: Good thinking!
Stacy:I have been planning what to bring for over a week and you wouldn’t believe the amount of shopping that I’ve done to get ready for this trip.
Gretchen: I know! Do you have your passport and an Italian language dictionary?
Stacy: Well… I have the language dictionary and I even got some of those outlet adapter thingies for my hairdryer and stuff. But when I went to get the passport taken care of do you know how much it costs to get a passport?! I couldn’t believe it. They wanted $65 and then…get this… they get another $15 for the passport picture. Can you believe that? It’s outrageous!
Gretchen: It cost that much?! That is expensive! But you go it right?
Stacy: Are you kidding? I am not paying that much for a stupid passport that I will probably never even use again.
Gretchen: You didn’t get the passport!?
Stacy: No way! I refuse to waste money like that!
Gretchen: Stacy! You can’t leave the country without a passport!
Stacy: What are you talking about? Of course, I am going to leave the country! I already have my airplane tickets and everything. Look at this [pointing to her suitcases as if she is talking to a child] I’m all packed and ready to go.
Gretchen: Stacy, they won’t let you on the plane without a passport. Trust me on this one. If you don’t get on the phone and figure out how to get a passport, you are going No where!
[They walk off stage still talking about it]
Stacy: Well, that is just silly! You mean to tell me that if I don’t pay $65 for a passport even though I have all of my stuff packed, hotel reservations made, flight arrangements made and opera tickets paid for that I can’t go to Italy?
Gretchen: Not without a passport.
Stacy: But…..I’ve been planning this for over three years!
Gretchen: Sorry to be the one to tell you this but you really should have planned in a passport.
