A dot of blazing orange sun
Burns the blue haze of the morning
Quick splashes of color capture the moment
The ripples of the water merge with the horizon
Faint swirls of factory smog disappear in the dawn
A glimpse of time seen through Claude Monet’s eyes
Impression, Sunrise
Just a coating on a canvas
Imposters seize the walls of the Salon
Scribbles hang where the masters’ art belongs
Untamed strokes of unruly color paint the Paris air
Unfinished work resembles nothing but an impression
A glimpse of emerging art through the mocking critics’ eyes

A precious pearl in the sea of art
Sent to inspire other lovers of beauty
To proceed with their ideas of innovation
A page of history that forever belongs to France
Adorning the walls of the Musee Marmottan Monet
A glimpse of inspiration through today’s art students’ eyes
Impression, Sunrise
A masterpiece of creation
Preceded the first dab of paint
Monet’s blessed gift of realization
That awesome display of light at any hour
Is best captured as impressions of changing glory
A glimpse of the Master’s creation through God’s loving eyes

Note: In 1874, a group of innovative artists put on an exhibition of their paintings in Paris. The public and critics laughed at the work. One art critic, Louis Leroy, noticed the word "impression" in Monet's title and wrote, mockingly, that all the artists in the show were impressionists. From then on, the artists defiantly used the term to describe themselves.
In my opinion, an artist is only able to create their own impression of the beauty God has already perfected.
