Good Evening, Ladies and Gentle-friends--
RUSTY
Whaddya mean, Gentle-friends, it supposed to be Gentlemen—
CHARLIE
Well, Rusty, I thought I saw someone with a dog, and I wanted to cover the bases—
RUSTY
A dog? In church? Are you crazy?
CHARLIE
Well, I thought I saw one.
RUSTY
Awww…Okay. I’ll take your word for it. Go ahead.
CHARLIE
Good Evening,
(a dog runs across the platform)
Ladies and Gentle-friends, Boys and Gerts—
RUSTY
Boys and Gerts? You gotta explain this one, Charlie. What’s a Gert?
CHARLIE
Oh, I’m sorry Rusty. A gert is a girl in a skirt!
RUSTY
Okay. I’ll take your word for it. Go ahead.
CHARLIE
Good Evening, Ladies and Gentle-friends, Boys and Gerts—
Welcome to a joyful night of educational fun and frivolity with me, Charlie, and—
RUSTY
Me, Rusty.
CHARLIE
Hey, Rusty, I was thinkin’ on the way over here—
RUSTY
That’s scary.
CHARLIE
What’s scary?
RUSTY
That you were thinkin.’
CHARLIE
Very funny, red. Now, I’m being very serious. I think we should go on tour in South America.
RUSTY
Hey, I went down there once. We saw the Super-duper Dome in New Orleans, then drove all the way over to Hot-lanta, then down to Disney World. It was so fun I got my own little Minnie Mousey ears—
CHARLIE
No, silly—I didn’t mean the south in America, I meant South America.
RUSTY
Oh, you mean like way down there. I just happen to have a map!
(Rusty pulls out a world map and holds it up between them; it also flashes on the screen behind and above them)
The Super-duper Dome is right about there--
(Rusty points at New Orleans)
CHARLIE
(Charlie points at the map) And over a little and below Louisiana and Texas is Mexico—
RUSTY
Uh-huh. I like Mexico, because I love Chihuahuas. They’re sooo cute.
CHARLIE
(Charlie clears his throat) Ah-hem. And, below Mexico is Central America.
RUSTY
Kinda like St. Louis?
CHARLIE
Very funny!
RUSTY
I’m just kidding.
CHARLIE
I know. And below Central America—hey look at that!
(Charlie points at the screen)
RUSTY
(Rusty turns and looks) That is so cool—so digital.
CHARLIE
See where it gets real skinny right there at the bottom of Central America?
RUSTY
Yes sir.
CHARLIE
That’s called Panama, where the Panama Canal is located.
RUSTY
I had one of those once. Eeewwww—I hate dentists!
CHARLIE
I’m just gonna ignore that one. We built the Panama Canal—a canal is a man-made river—so the ships wouldn’t have to go all the way around South America to deliver goods and people.
RUSTY
That’s just plain fascinating, Charlie. What’s so big about South America? Why do you wanna go there? I like my bed here.
CHARLIE
We’ll go to churches in all the Capital cities, starting with Bogota in Colombia.
(Charlie points to Colombia on the map.)
RUSTY
Wow, like we’ll be missionaries? We’ll be the Ministers of Mirth, or the Merry Messengers of Missions—hey we could put that on our business card—
CHARLIE
(Charlie mocks Rusty) Hey we could put that on our business card. You really are Rusty, aren’t you? (Charlie points at his head.)
RUSTY
I am. And you are Charlie. Nice to meet you.
CHARLIE
Nice to meet you, too... After Colombia, we make our way over to Caracas in Venezuela.
RUSTY
What will we wear? Are the people nice?
CHARLIE
We’ll wear our Charlie and Rusty clothes, like we always do.
RUSTY
Oh, okay. But my pants got holes in ‘em.
CHARLIE
Well, if you wouldn’t go try to pet every German Shepherd dog you see, you wouldn’t get chased and have to jump over the barbed-wire fence!
RUSTY
But Germy was sooo cute.
CHARLIE
You and those dogs.
(a dog runs across the platform)
Hey, did you see that?—
RUSTY
(Rusty smiles big) Nope, I didn’t see nothin.
CHARLIE
After Caracas, we’ll fly over the Amazon—
RUSTY
I love Amazon.com—got me a new dog bed just the other day.
CHARLIE
We’ll fly over the Amazon River to Brasilia in Brazil.
(Charlie points at Brazil.)
RUSTY
Wow…it’s so huge. We could get lost there.
CHARLIE
We’ll be fine. God watches over us, as He always does.
That’s as far as we’ll go on our first tour in South America.
RUSTY
Awwww, I wanted to go see the green Lima bean dogs in Peru.
CHARLIE
You are Rusty, aren’t you?
RUSTY
I am. And you’re Charlie?
CHARLIE
You’re silly…
