It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas
Through my domicile;
Catch a whiff of the turkey burned, that's in to jerky turned,
While gremlins dance and grin and glance with guile.
It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas--
Phone or doorbell rings,
And distracted I do not hear that the time to check is near,
Which disaster brings.
Two trays of cookies, alas, I will just have to pass
On gifting to dear Uncle Clay;
I'm just so sick, for the fruitcake's a brick
That I made for sweet Auntie May;
But that's okay--she didn't really want it anyway.
It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas
Through my domicile;
I think I will try once again, (the gremlins dance and grin,)
The slice and bake, so easy for a child.
It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas;
Tears begin to fall,
And the reason that I now weep is the smoke detector's beep
Sounds from down the hall.
