I was searching for an answer to life. What makes life the way it is?
One-day life catches up with you and you’re pushed beyond the limits of space and time.
And then time doesn’t mean anything, and life is just something that happens because you were born and you just hang on waiting for death.
I was the one and only child of the wealthiest man in town, a town called Spencer. Every weekend brought me a good time and lots of pot and beer and my friends came along for the money and the drugs and the good times. Mom and Dad spent every Sunday in church, but not me. I spend my time controlling everything and everyone that came in contact with my life and me. My weekend drinking turned to daily drinking. Without even realizing it, I was an alcoholic.
The accident happened on a curvy road up in the Switzerland Mountains, we turned over and over and over until we reached the bottom of the ravine. I was so drunk when it happened I didn’t even realize it. I awoke in the hospital, hooked up to all kinds of machines, and all my friends were gone. Every one of them was dead including the love of my life, Jake. They buried them all in the same little graveyard in Spencer Town. I was still hooked up to machines and couldn’t attend the funerals.
Jake had been my love since tenth grade, never touching a drop to drink or even doing anything harmful to a living soul, just following me around, begging me, “Please Cindy,
stop this nonsense, I love you, please stop". I didn’t stop, I couldn’t stop, it was too late.
The first day at Kiki beach was just like any other day. I dragged my beach lounger out just as far as the ocean would let me and laid back just watching the sun rise above my head and wishing with every breath that I was dead along with the rest of my friends. I went to sleep and awoke to someone calling my name, “Cindy, Cindy”. I looked up into the bluest eyes I have ever seen. The sun cascaded around his shoulders and his eternal blond hair hung in golden curls around his muscled arms, his bronzed body was like steel. His face was Jakes and I looked into his eyes and melted. Then all of a sudden, day turned to night, but yet the sun was still shining, it was kind of like it was day and night at the same time.
I said, “Jake, oh Jake where did you come from”? He said absolutely nothing, but he reached for my hand and we strolled along Kiki beach watching the stars twinkle in the June night and the moon turning to a golden yellow. Then all of a sudden, a mountain sprang up in front of us and a nighthawk called his name. I could see light, all kinds of light.
The mountains opened and we went inside. The rocks hung above our heads and lavender flowers touched our faces. I could see light everywhere, and the faces of people I hadn’t seen in forever. Then Jake sat down on a golden rock and opened a book called Life and started to read, “My peace I give to you not as the world giveth”. I listened and ate of the book until my cup was full and running over. Then we walked back out of the mountain hand in hand along Kiki beach until I saw my beach lounger. Then he stopped, his blue eyes searched my soul, he took me in his arms, kissed me good-by and walked off into the light.
I lay back in the lounger, resting my mind in knowing that someday in a far-a-way land we would be together again never to part. Then I wrote his name in the sand.
My darling Jake:
I love you and this day I have given my life to Christ and I will meet you at the edge of eternity some wonderful glorious morning.
