An age old game had just begun.
The girls in pj’s sat alert
Awaiting words about to spurt.
Their giggly laughter filled the air
As truths were spilled to wide-eyed stares.
Vulnerable they each became,
Exposing truths throughout the game.
And when Samantha, without a blink,
Accepted her challenge, some did think
That truly she must have lost her mind--
A dare-devil of the boldest kind.
“No big deal,”--her courage mustered,
Though inside she felt quite flustered.
Would she cut her crowning glory?
Yes, tresses fell--end of story.
Then Annamae’s turn came around,
To tell the truth, she now was bound.
To some she was a mystery,
We want to know some history.”
Plainly pretty and leanly built
She spoke with such a friendly lilt.
“Well here’s your chance to inquire,
Ask me whatever you desire.”
“Curiosity has arisen,
Who do you see each week in prison?
A family member, an old friend--
Maybe a love you refuse to end?”
“Yes and no--let me explain.
I go and pray for Christ I’ll gain
Christian brothers--whose hearts now bleed.
God uses me to plant His seeds."
Annamae’s face seemed to brighten
Her room-mates now were enlightened.
Then with an inquisitive stare--
“Come along next time if you dare.”
This alluring game took a turn
When Sue asked out of sheer concern,
“Is it safe inside those ugly gates
To talk of God to sinning mates?”
“What makes you think you’re wanted there?”
Timid Sue asked, “Do they even care?”
“Corruption, that’s their only game!”
Gina voiced with brave disdain.
“No, attending men aren’t required
To come or even be inspired.
I read of God’s redeeming grace,
They learn their sins have been erased.”
Samantha said, “I’ll take the dare,”
Finger-combing new cropped hair.
“You’re such a fool,” Gina sneered,
Accusing ‘Sam’ of being weird.
Gina’s words didn’t faze bold ‘Sam’,
“I’m really going, yes I am.
Doesn’t the Bible clearly state
We are to love and never hate?”
"The Truth is what they’re searching for,
They’ll get filled up then want for more.
Who knows, but God, their inner soul;
Who, but God, can make them whole."
