I will not put up with repeat offenses from my kids.
But, God is constantly yanking my bacon out of the fire.
I will not accept the fact that I have to clean up other peoples messes.
But, God regularly picks up after me.
I cannot stand a lack of commitment.
But, God accepts my lethargic dedication and works with what He has.
I expect people to try harder.
But, God is always coaxing me along.
I preach regular bible reading.
But, God has to remind me to study frequently.
I cannot stand tardiness.
But, God is teaching me to wait.
Please, someone jump in here and stop me!
We are “patience failures” compared to Christ. We’ve all heard the expression, the “Patience of Job?” I’ve been accused of that. Only once though. Job indeed had patience, but it was non-existent compared to that of God. If you’re unsure about what I am saying, follow the lives of the Children of Israel in the Old Testament. As you read along, you’ll find we have a lot in common with them. In fact, it’s a beautiful analogy of the Christian walk. You’ll also discover the Great and Patient God who made them and loved them. And was extraordinarily patient with them. He hasn’t changed…
My patience is growing. In many areas. Especially with my children that I love so much. But, the greatest proof of my growth is when I am mimicking the level of patience my Father has for me. For all of us. Patience is indeed a virtue, but more than that, it’s proof of who commands the helm.
“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NKJV)
