I watched it as a gardener on his knees
Extracted the choking weeds, giving space
To tendrils stretching their tender roots
Down into the soil of promise.
Fruitful time. . . fruitful time. . .
I sensed it in the snug worm warm
Within the chrysalis - waiting,
Until it struggled free and
Winged with wondrous beauty flew.
Wings of time. . . wings of time. . .
I felt it in the silence of a father’s
Prayer for his wayward son,
Beseeching God to call him back
To the place of reconciliation.
Forgiving time. . . forgiving time. . .
I blessed it when the Spirit called her
Out of the deep valley of darkness
Into the Light, with long-suffering
Love, unwearied by her delayed answer.
Redeeming time . . .redeeming time. . .
The silent witness – Patience - plods
Faithfully, keeping time to the rhythm
Of all created things, who bring delight
To the Creator by becoming His intentions.
Keeping time. . .keeping time. . . forever. . .
