Clergy are often teased about their other-worldliness. There is the celestial glimmer of future hope as an illustrator makes sure there is a sparkling circle above the head of the person being ridiculed.
Some ministers of the cloth have their halo's around their necks! The 'dog collar', could be refered to by synics as the symbol of a halo that has slipped.
What causes Halo's to fall?
Apathy in regard to spirtual disciplines. Self-assuredness after many years of performing the same ministerial duties. Weakness in counteracting the temptations aimed at possibilities of re-living the besetting sins of the past. Personal spiritual warfare was apparntly surrendered by not living within the victory Christ achieved at Calvary
The resulting fall is not only fatal damage to the symbolic halo but a shattering of the glistening hopes of personal holiness.
Halo's bite the dust yet again because of momentary lapses in concentration upon maintaining the standard depicted by the expectations of a fallen public upon a striving saint, but most importantly that of missing the mark of God's expectations.
It is not an eternal loss; for laid up for the 'saints' is the crown of righteousness that does not fade.
