The good prince flew at a gallop
Where blue hills rolled and day bloomed fair
And lilies glistened in crystal air
And he sought a beautiful maiden
He sought a beautiful maiden
He turned his face toward Canaan land
To seek where he must find
Where the sun burnt hot and crops were brown
And deeds of pagan gods renown
And he sought a beautiful maiden
He sought a beautiful maiden
It was in this place he heard the mewl
In the land of the Amorite
Where he hunkered down to blood-wet earth
Humid still from her nascent birth
And he found a beautiful maiden
He found a beautiful maiden
"O the piteous scrap," the sweet prince mused,
"Will none on earth take care?"
But the babe wept long to its mother’s shame
And fledgling king its nurse became
For he found a beautiful maiden
He found a beautiful maiden
The child waxed fat in a princess manse
She feasted on oil and honey
And the good prince decked her with ornaments
Her arms with golden bracelets
For he found a beautiful maiden
He found a beautiful maiden
Then the heathen heard of her beauty rare
They came from far to see
And the prince cried aloud for his precious gem
When his only love lay down for them
And he sought a virtuous maiden
He sought a virtuous maiden
The wise prince knew what he must do
His seal was waxed and set
He would barter his blood for her penalty-
His wounds would set her free
For he sought a virtuous maiden
He sought a virtuous maiden
For a day he delayed on the silvery plain
He came to a narrow river
Where the water ran deep and dark gloom slept
And shadow and grave their counsel kept
And he sought a virtuous maiden
He sought a virtuous maiden
The prince sat straight on his snow white horse
He plunged into murky depths
Where the banks sloped in and light grew dim
And his succor came alone from Him
And he sought a virtuous maiden
He sought a virtuous maiden
A king rose up from that watery grave
He burst from there like light
For he conquered sin and death and hell
Redeemed his love from where she fell
And he wed a virtuous maiden
He wed a virtuous maiden

Laury
My only nitpick is the title, which doesn't seem to match the tone of this ballad.
This is musical and lovely.
