Is a sassy ole’ lad,
For from that experience,
He will be made glad.
Not only a rite of passage
As some might proclaim,
It’s the cleansing of sin,
And a brand new fame.
Jesus as the first,
To receive this reward,
Arrived at the Jordan River
From Galilee’s shore.
His entrance as Messiah
Was not yet known,
His cousin John The Baptist
Knew he was messenger alone.
As John performed His duties
Unto the Most Holy One,
The heavens opened victorious
And a voice said, “This is my Son”.
God also announced that
He was well pleased,
With the Savior of many
Who put all at ease.
This water baptism
A symbol indeed,
Showed to all men
What’s received is believed.
For in God’s divine wisdom
Once a child accepted His place,
The Holy Spirit’s presence
Would show on his face.
As the enemy always comes
To tell us we’re done,
The Holy Spirit shows up
And Christianity has won!
The precious water that ran
From our head to our feet,
Unified us with Christ
He is all that we need.
