"What?"
The captain turned to the intern.
"Flooding in the on-board school's computer room."
"Ohh! Ok. I get it now." But why code blue?
"Because, computers and water don't mix. Water plus computers equals death. That's why it's code blue."
"Oh, I've got you now, Captain."
"Here we are, Intern. You first."
"Why?"
"Because I'm Captain and you're the intern. That's why."
"Yes, Sir." The intern slowed opened the door and peered around the corner. "You might want to see this."
"That's 'Captain' to you, Intern! What seems to be the problem?"
"It's like I said. You'd better look yourself."
The captain looked into the computer room, expecting to see sparks flying.
Inside the room, Mrs. Wilson's class huddled in the corner. A computer was closing in on them.
"Mrs. Wilson! Are you all right? What is that computer-man trying to do? Is he threatening you?"
"Worse!" Mrs. Wilson exclaimed with lament. "He's making us count in binary!"
"1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110," the children chanted with the computer.
"This is more serious than I thought!" the captain exclaimed. "Intern! Go for backups! Pronto!"
The intern did'nt move.
"Pronto! It means quickly!" the computer explained to the intern.
"Oh, right!" the intern exclaimed, as he ran off.
"Computer, I command you, by order of the captain of this ship to stop!"
"I have a name."
"And what is your name, Mr. Computer??"
"John. Serial number 10:10.."
"John 10:10, huh? Is that some sort of code?"
"It's nothing you can't find in the Book," John says. "But to make it easier, I'll spell it out for you. 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.'"
Everyone looked at John with bewildered faces.
"Come, gather around. I promise, there is a reason to my 'madness.'" Slowly, cautiously, the captain first, followed by Mrs. Wilson and the children, gathered around John. "You see, before you came in with your class, Mrs. Wilson, I was not the only computer that came to life when the water hit. Others came to life too. But they came to steal and destroy. Their programming was damaged by the water. Mine was enhanced. I came to give you life. You see, the other computers could only be destroyed by using their own language. Binary…."
The intern came running into the room, followed by the security crew. They saw everyone gathered around the computer, and started to listen. Soon, everyone on the ship was gathered around John listening to his story.
"So you see, although making all of you learn binary seems like cruel and unusual punishment, it is the only way to defeat the enemy. You have to speak their language. I have some friends to help me too. Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Matthew is great for when you are discouraged. One of h is favorite sayings is 'Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.' And if you are ill, Luke is the one to see. And Mark? Well, he's great with kids. 'Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these;' he says. If you allow us to come into your lives, we will gradually invite more of our friends. There are sixty-six of us in all. Thirty-nine are an older model, but oh, the stories they tell! Twenty-seven of us are newer versions.
The room was silent, except for John's words. Even the youngest among the crowd were mesmerized. John continued.
"Together, we will work together to introduce you to our Master. The Alpha and Omega. But you have to let Him in first. And us to. So, I remind you again of my name and serial number; John 10:10 ''The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.' So, what do you think?"
The captain stood up. "I think I speak for all of us, John, when I say that you and your friends are welcome here. We want to learn from you. I can only hope that we can learn to know the Master as you have, John. I herby christen this ship Alpha and Omega. My we be a crew that truly lives for The Alpha and Omega. The Beginning and the End. Amen."
