I have a confession to make.


I am a woman who hates to shop.



Maybe it has to do with the care and upkeep of the stuff I've gathered over the years.



Maybe it has to do with the consumerism and me-ism that clogs the mall and squeezes the "Merry" out of Christmas.



A small flood, four inches in my basement, convinced me a few years ago that stuff shoved in a basement, even though the intentions are good, doesn't belong there.



Even though I threw away useable items that I didn't use, and felt awful about it, I didn't stop shopping.



I justified it by telling myself that I'm a bargain shopper. But then how much of a bargain is it, if it gathers spider webs and mustiness?



I don't even want to think about the bargains I put on a credit card and carried there, accruing interest, but not joy or contentment.

I understand your dilemma. My husband once said he couldn't afford for me to "save" him any more money. It cost too much!

Actually there seems to be a trend among many of the entries this week: it seems many women don’t like to shop after all. I’m not a big fan myself. It just takes too much time. You’re right that “stuff” is just too much work. I would like to have seen you expand on this piece some more, and I found the formatting to be a little different. But you’ve made several good point here, and I enjoyed reading this.
