What are you cooking in your life,
Seasoning joy or seeds of strife?
Do you cook up deceit and lies
Of selfishness and plans unwise
As Jacob did his father’s meal,
His brother’s birthright then to steal?
Is your boiling point so low
That it makes your top to blow?
Does your anger start to steam?
Do you almost want to scream?
Can hurt feelings in you stew
Till you scarce know what to do?
Or do you bake with confidence
The bread of faith in fullest sense
Of God’s good graces to supply
All that you need to satisfy?
Thus did the widow’s flour and oil
Provide food for Elijah’s toil.
Do you prepare and blend with love
To show the heart of God above?
So did the Savior once display
His Father’s love a special way.
He cooked a dinner by the sea
And served it with humility.
