Lead me to the truth,
I pray, “As the world rolls round
And round, let me walk
On hallowed ground.”
Day to Night, Dark to light
Let me luminesce in you
Nourish me in your candle-glow
So I may fight and I may stand
Against the coals of gloomy Sheol
Night and Day, Day and night
Teach me what is pure and true
Empower me with your warming cure
So I may be your anomaly
Make me strong and solid, sure
Night to Night, Day to Day
Let these gray lips speak truth as you
Would speak and teach and pray
Lord, let me do as you would do
So all suspicious souls believe
For I have found on these dark trails
Little havens, huger hells
These streets I thought I knew so well
By candlelight look so wholly new
Far from these demons’ pointed tales
I’ve been plagued by famines, dusts
I’ve taken part in lust and sin
The flesh I thought was good enough
Just a rusted curse consumed
My soul exposed to beatings, crushed
But you pulled me out of chasms low
To put me on evangel ground
So as I wander, seek and pray
And this old earth spins round and round
May I bear my soul for you each day.
