‘Its time to sleep,’ the old man said
As he rumpled his grandson’s tousled head
And the young child tossed in a crumpled bed:
‘Just once more Granddad, tell me again,
Of when you were young and what happened then,
Just once more Granddad, tell me again.’
The old man sighed and his twinkling eye
Betrayed any sternness in his sigh,
‘Well just briefly then, then I really must fly......
The night was dark but the lamp flickered yet
As I lay in my bed, I was young, don’t forget,
The night was dark but the lamp flickered yet.’
‘It was quiet and still, but I heard, very clear
Someone call out my name but I saw no-one near,
But someone had called me, I didn’t mishear.
I thought it must be the priest, dear old man.’
‘And then what happened, dear Granddad Sam?’
‘I thought it must be the priest, dear old man.’
‘Old Eli, the priest, was laid down for the night,
He couldn’t see well, he hadn’t much sight,
But he hadn’t called me, so we ‘gain said Goodnight.
I laid down again and once more heard my name,
The voice was so clear, exactly the same, as
I laid down again and once more heard my name.’
‘Three times He called, three times I heard
A voice I now know, just call that one word,
A call right from Heaven, it thrice recurred,
And I answered ‘Speak, I’m now listening to You,’
And then came His Voice, unmistakably true, as
I answered ‘Speak, I’m now listening to you.’
Granddad and Grandson, sat quietly still
Till the young lad asked ‘Dear Grandad, Will
God call me like that? I long that He will.
‘Young Heman, be listening, and bow at His feet,
He may call you once, or His call He repeat
But always be listening, and bow at His feet.’
1 Samuel 3.
(Though Samuel’s sons strayed far from the Lord
His grandson Heman followed God’s Word
And faithfully served Him in music and song
For all of his days, throughout his life long.)
1 Samuel 8:2,3 The name of (Samuel’s) firstborn was Joel.... (he) turned aside to dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.
1 Chronicles 6: 31,33 These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the Lord after the ark came to rest there.... Heman, the musician, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel ......

God bless~
To wrap it up in verse and add a subtle touch of biblical history shows an even greater level of skill.
God's message reigns and we don't know who will listen to the call.
Congratulations on your first-placed entry.
