But I did not understand
Yet was willing to revisit
That book upon our shelf
It had a man upon a cross
Though he was not by himself
A man suffered to his right
Another to his left
A sky on the verge of night
And a child left wondering
The days rode past
My curiosity did not fade
My interest did last
And I posed queries to family
About that book upon our shelf
Kin folk answered happily
He’s on that book for good cause
So you, my child will bloom
And follow Him without pause
And not be left wandering
Teach me about the Crossman
Became my daily appeal
Show me how it all began
This Man who came for me
I may be oh so small
But I feel the need to know
About this All and All
He was in my home always
Child on the verge of light
Blooming the rest of my days
A life without squandering
