Back home,
Preferring the lascivious lips of Lady
Lust over
The meek milk of mild Mary, his bride of
Many moons
Saccharine treats lacking substance tugged at
His sweet
Tooth, dissolving the hard crust of his once
Firm resolve
The drug of imitation candy drew him into
An addiction that
Left him spellbound, no desire to return
Though a part of
Him longed to break free, he lacked
The energy
What brought him back was a kiss,
A simple kiss,
Unfrosted and unadorned, rich and deep,
Peppered with
Cloves, the kiss his wife placed on his lips
Before he left
I shan't confine my cooking to a cauldron filled
With controversy
She told him; far better a meal of vegetables with
Peace than a
Devil's food cake soaked in violence and strife
All I ask
Is that before you slam the lid on my cuisine
You please
Allow me to impart to you one last kiss,
Then you may go
She was standing in the kitchen at
The time,
Leaning over a steaming stove, watching
Steak simmer
In a marinade of succulent sauces designed to
Draw out
Its natural flavors, just like the beads of sweat
Dripping from
Her brow drew out her sorrow, as she sucked upon the
Ring finger
She accidentally cut while slicing beets into a
Spinach salad
Green with fragrant toil squeezed from pain-
Stained hands
Her tender spirit he could not resist,
It did insist
On one last kiss
Pure and wholesome to the touch, it
Tingled with
Innocence, stirring within him untapped
Cravings
For genuine affection; on her lips he caught
A taste
Of tantalizing teardrops sprinkled with salt, tiny
White
Particles of untamed, undeniable truth mixed with a
Tinge of
Blood, faithful and persevering, token of many
Never-ending
Nights spent crying herself to sleep, dining
On bitter
Herbs of rejection inflicted on her by his
Roving eye
It was over in a moment, yet even as
He followed
The siren's scent of toxic dainties, he
Knew his
World had been turned upside-down by the power
Of one
Incredibly delicious, savory and nutritious kiss
It never
Left him, even as the years rolled by, and the
Plastic
Smooch of the adulteress turned to metal in
His teeth,
Drilling cavities into once virile enamel,
Memories
Of that beloved kiss still lingered on
His tongue
Streams of saliva trickled past his taste
Buds like
Butter, smooth and creamy, streamlets of long-
Suffering,
The sort that reaches deep into your soul and won't
Let go
Of zealous lemon zest, the wisdom of authentic sage,
And bits
Of opportune thyme; these had all oozed down his
Throat
Too soon for him to fully explore their meaty
Flavors,
Dipped in the tangy cream of wounded passion,
Fed by
Flames of that amazing, unforgettable
Kiss
Sparks of cinnamon passion lit his tongue
With
Hot fervor, turning him back from the burning
Tines
Of hell; a hint of peppermint, riding a cool breeze,
Awakened
His senses to the trauma of her suffering and snapped
Him out
Of his enchantment, giving him hope that perhaps he
Might
Get a second chance to taste the reality of God's
Mercy
Would his wife be willing to forgive Him? The
Only way
To know was to ask for another taste of that
Kiss
