My soul, my soul, why feel so low?
Why so weary, beat and sad?
Why do you fret and worry so?
Is there aught can make you glad?

“Where is your God?” the scoffers mock,
“He in Whom you’ve put your trust,
You say He is your solid Rock
But it’s all quicksand to us.”

Their voices grow much bolder now
Drowning out all other sound
Long-cherished things they disavow
Cast the Truth upon the ground.

Old paths, well worn, so many trod
Are now treated with disdain,
So very few now honour God
Or revere His holy name.

But then I see a sparrow flit
Grab a tiny crust of bread;
By simple deed did God transmit
Awesome truths I’d often read.

That not a sparrow falls to ground
But our loving Father knows;
In every lilies’ gorgeous gown
Is omniscience disclosed,

That He Who flung the stars in space
Never slumbers, falls asleep—
Sufficient is His love and grace
Oh my soul why should you weep?

His sparrow brought encouragement
And my fretting mind consoled—
My heart now rested and content;
Give Him glory oh my soul!!

I too loved this! I agree, it seems fewer and fewer honor God anymore and it can be so discouraging. But then God reminds us, He’s still on the thrown! And isn’t it wonderful when the simplest thing sends us a powerful message from God! Kudos…wonderful poem!

I'm catching up on my reading this morning and found this wonderful, simple poem. It is altogether lovely. It is a marvel that God can take the simplest thing from nature to teach such profound truth. I also reread Beauty from your site and loved it. Thank you for using your gift from God. Your poetry is a blessing to all who read it.
