The spinning, waiting earth
Like diamonds tossed on velvet seas,
Stunning in their worth.
The ever-changing moon presents
Her pulsing, glowing glory,
Marking times and hallowed days
With swelling shadow story.
We barely notice wonderment,
Our miracles undone
By daily downward cares and woes,
Our inner songs unsung.
But if the nightly sparkling gift
Came out just once a year,
The stars and shining shadow moon
Only annually appeared,
Would we not drop to our knees,
A captured heart and soul
In awed anticipation thrall
Not jaded, now, behold?
Ebony punched luminous,
White orb a wondrous pearl,
And constellation poetry
A mystery unfurl.
In that quiet, breathless time
We’d know how very small
Our chosen dull existence is,
Compared to All-in-all.
We’d be amazed, and deeply so,
That all the Father’s love
Is written in the charcoal sky,
A constant sign above.
We have this wonder every night
And a thousand gifts beside
To thrill our hearts with gratitude
And in astonishment reside.
