Fills the house from end to end,
Cloven tongues of fire descend—
Empowered by God, church age begins,
God’s Spirit comes to indwell men.
On sons and daughters gifts conferred
As Joel had spoken in the Word,
New tongues the diverse nations heard,
(To mocking hearts they seemed absurd);
With prophecy these gifts concurred.
The Comforter, Christ said would guide,
Would teach and lead and dwell inside
All those of faith for whom He died
In mortal temples now abides
Until the day we’re glorified.
The major feasts of Israel
Were each prophetic types as well
Designed to teach, inform, impel
Through all the truths they did foretell,
All pointing to Immanuel—
Both Word and type which teach God’s will
Were meant down ages to instil
God’s truths in men through prophet’s quill—
Now in our days be hearing still!
Pentecost is Feast of Weeks fulfilled.
