The phrase that aliens say
Particularly ones that visit us
From planets far away
The ones that came were hustled to
A very secret place
And leaders of the countries met
These aliens face to face
“We’ve come to make an offer for
Your hearty yellow sun
Our own is on its last legs
Its fire is nearly done.”
For years they had been watching us
Their careful observation
Revealed the lack of anything
Inspiring admiration
“You do not take sufficient care
Of all that you possess
Your unrelenting greed had caused
Your planet such distress.”
They pointed to a coloured chart
That showed a steady rise
In temperatures across the globe
It came as no surprise
“The V’jasrt Alliance feels your sun
Deserves much better care
To have this gift be so misused
We feel it isn’t fair!”
The offer on the table was
A hundred thousand blings
They were prepared to raise their price
To one point sixty dings
The offer was refused, or course
The sun was not for sale
Without its gentle yellow light
All life on earth would fail!
The aliens got nasty and
Revealed a wicked gun
“If you won’t sell then we will take
Your pretty yellow sun!”
Was this the final chapter of
The greedy human race?
To watch the sun be towed away
To some far distant place?
But no, there was another deal
A promise, if you will
That out into the sky, the sea
Our waste we would not spill
A second chance was given
A chance for us to prove
That laws and regulations that
Destroy we would remove
They pointed to a dotted line
For signatures on top
To make us care for nature and
For our neglect to stop
The world and all that’s in it
With sky, and land, and sea
Without our precious yellow sun
These things would cease to be.
