But God still loved man and hatched a plan to buy him back from the slave market of sin. He killed a ram as foreshadow of what would be in the fullness of time. But it was going to be a costly exercise. He would have to give His best, His Son- Jesus. It was not easy but He so loved man that He did not withhold Jesus.
Man was bound in the chains of sin, wallowed under guilt shame, and sat in the Land of death, despair, darkness and blindness. He tried to use sacrifices to bridge the gap and lighten the burden of the generational ignoble baggage but it left him worse.
He agonised, ‘O wretched man that I am. Who will rescue me from this burden of sin?’
In the fullness of time, the Father called a meeting in heaven and asked, ‘Who will go for us?
And Jesus answered and said, ‘Here I am, send Me.’
Divinity clothe Himself with humanity-flesh and blood, came down and identified with us. He was tempted in every possible way yet He did not sin.
John The Baptist was His forerunner who proclaimed, ‘Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.'
He came to set free all those still languishing under the strain of the sinful baggage. He said, ‘Come all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’
On the cross He bore the weight of all our sin, guilt and shame. He bridged the gap between God and man as he offered Himself-the supreme sacrifice and sweet smelling savour to God.
On the cross, He said, ‘It is finished!’. All the debt had been paid for. And from then on whosoever believes in the finished work on Calvary can be sure that their sin, their baggage of bondage will be lifted and they will be set free.
The price is paid. The prison doors are opened. Why are you still in jail? Why are you still carrying that heavy luggage of sin?
The luggage and baggage that brought bondage.
The luggage and baggage
that brought bondage.
That awful, sinful, pitiful,
Wicked, ensnaring package.
A lethal mortal hellish injection.
Believing a costly lie, deception
And from then on generational infection.
It was a treason for no reason,
Leading millions upon millions into prison.
Adam’s children languished in sin
From season to season.
They wallowed in blindness,
Sat in utter darkness.
Sorrow their bread,
Wickedness their drink.
And on beds of nails they slept.
They wept till their cup overflowed.
The valley of the shadow of death
They made their constant abode.
The law they had was a School of Law.
Moses did his best while they were a pest.
There was no hope until that Day of days.
When God the Son step out of eternity into time.
He wrapped himself with a body, limited Himself.
And what the law could not do, He did.
He paid the sacrifice once and for all
As the sinless became sin for the sinful.
Obeying the Father, laid down His life,
To give man eternal life.
And he who sat in darkness,
Can come into the light.
Salvation for whoso ever wills.
Even for me and for you.
And so the diabolical luggage
That spelt bondage
Was nailed to the cross
The sin and sentence that brought the curse
Were dealt a deadly blow as He cried, “It is finished!â€
The gap between God and man is bridged.
So whoever believes receives;
And the burden is rolled away.
Like Lazarus stone was rolled away,
And Jesus’ stone was rolled away.
A New Day dawns from the Son.
