Abundance of blessings,
Complacent in my life of ease,
Nothing ever stressing.
My daily walk began to pale,
No longer very rosy.
Bitterly I struck out toward
Someone whose life was cozy.
A heartless deed it was, for sure,
My victim suffered so.
Offense without apology
Intensified the blow.
Awash in pain, his wounded heart
Expressed itself in rage,
And ruddy features bellowed loud,
“You’ll pay for this someday!”
Arrogant, I ventured on,
Without a thought or care.
Life offered opportunities
and I would have my share.
But yet, rebuke would come my way,
For others knew my sin.
Florid faces challenged me,
“Have you no shame within?”
Confronted with my evil act,
deep scarlet flamed my face,
Though my regret was all for me,
My own pain and disgrace.
Discounted guilt birthed misery,
A heavy burden, true.
Finally, remorse took root,
And sorrow, clearly due.
With humble heart I bowed my knee,
Repentance soon complete.
Forgiven by the Son of Love,
Whose mercy is replete.
The crimson flood washed over me,
Blotting out my sin,
My heart restored to walk with Him
In fellowship again.
The consequences of my deed
May never go away.
Contrition, though, may heal sore wounds,
Now humbly conveyed.
