the heart is.”
Gaius Plinius Secundus
(Pliny the Elder)
Christmas was just around the corner, and he was miles away from home. He knew his father backed him 100% as he was on his way to meet his mother this year. The plan had been his father’s, but he was glad to carry it out.
Weeks earlier he’d heard his mother talking to his father. He understood that she was happy, and although a bit nervous, she was ready for him to arrive. He was glad for that too.
His father was wealthy, while his mother was poor. In all ways they were worlds apart, yet that did not cause him apprehension. It was okay that there would be no gifts this year. He already had everything he needed, setting it aside for now was worth it in his eyes.
He knew that his father had always loved his mother, and he loved her too. It would be good to spend this time with her. He truly hoped that she would come to know how much she’d always been and always would be loved. Could he give her that? He wasn’t sure, but he would try.
“He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”
He’d be home for Christmas. It would be the very first one and that is where his heart was.
