"My friends, the Maker has proclaimed that a star will herald the arrival of His Son on a planet in the Milky Way. Even now, the Maker traverses the universe seeking such a star."
The luminaries intensified their nuclear reactions to elevate their luminosity. Sol, a yellow dwarf, ratcheted up his fusion reactions to 650 million tonnes per second. Parvus was impressed at the luminous display of his relatively small friend.
"Sol, I never realized you had that in you."
"I can’t maintain this level for long, but hopefully it will impress the Maker."
"Well, I'm certainly impressed," Parvus said.
"It's too bad you never attained the mass necessary for fusion reactions, Parvus."
"That was the Maker's choice. I guess I just wasn’t suppose to shine like the rest of you."
Betelgeuse, a red supergiant, approached the stellar convocation and dwarfed the other stars present. Sol powered down his fusion reactions, humiliated by Betelgeuse's presence. His limited radiance seemed dull and dreary compared to Betelgeuse.
Betelgeuse addressed the inferior luminaries. "Word among the constellations is that the Maker seeks a luminary as an historic herald. Is that true?"
The stars radiated in silence, intimidated by the supergiant. Eventually, Parvus braved a response. "It is true, Sir Betelgeuse. The angelic messengers have canvassed the universe searching for just the right star."
"I don't see any reason for the search to continue now that I have arrived. Do you?" Betelgeuse's blazing corona fired through the lesser stars reminding them of their place.
The other luminaries, without even a flare, replied, "No, Sir."
A Blue Supergiant approached the growing cluster of stars. "Not so fast my constellation companion."
"Ah, Rigel," Betelgeuse said. "Always wanting to show me up, aren't you?"
"If I can, my friend, if I can?"
The combined luminosity of the supergiants darkened all those around them and lit the galaxy from end to end. The brilliant display attracted the attention of yet one more star- Cygnus. The massive, blue hypergiant filled the gathering’s spatial parameters. He outshined Sol six million times over and even overwhelmed the combined luminosity of Rigel and Betelgeuse.
"Fighting again boys," the hypergiant said to Rigel and Betelgeuse.
"Oh. Hello, Cygnus," Betelgeuse replied flashing some intense flares in his direction.
"I hope you’re not upset at my presence. I simply thought that the Creator should have the brightest of all stars for His unprecedented announcement."
"Upset? Of course not ," Betelgeuse said as his chromosphere elevated five hundred degrees Kelvin. "But just remember, it might not be only size and brilliance the Maker seeks."
A legion of Seraphim flew upon the scene with their swords ablaze. Despite the stellar brightness, their swords maintained visibility. The chief Seraphim announced with angelic thunder, "The Infinite Creator of all things, the Holy One, the Almighty, the King of the Universe approaches!"
A supernatural brightness instantly consumed the other light. Even Cygnus now appeared dark compared to the eternal glory. The starry hosts bowed before their Maker and awaited His voice.
"Cygnus, I have made you the brightest among the stars, but this task is not for you. You must return to your place in the universe." Cygnus departed.
"Betelgeuse and Rigel, I have made you to help man navigate at night. Your place will remain in the constellation Orion." The two supergiants also left.
"Sol, you have a special place in my plan already. You will warm the face of my Son as He walks the earth and light His path during the day, but you will not herald His birth." Sol understood and returned to his place in the Milky Way.
"Parvus, you have never experienced the brilliance of the other stars. I made you too small to burn as they do. You are small, dim, and without standing among the stars; therefore, I choose you for this task." The Almighty stretched out His hand and infused the brown dwarf with His glory. Parvus instantly blazed with supernatural brilliance. God then placed Him over the town of Bethlehem in Judea where Magi in the East witnessed his rising.
Sol gazed at the luminous glory of his friend and said, "Parvus, you're the perfect Christmas light."
