Which kind of a pet would he pick?
With all of the creatures that he’d oversee
Which one of them would do the trick?
Did he call for a dog: so loyal and true?
Or a cat who would play at his feet?
Did he wish for a bird who would sing him a song?
Or a cute little monkey: so sweet!
From all of the fish in the ocean
Did they catch some, to swim in a bowl?
Did they ride upon camels, or llamas or gnus?
Or treasure a mare, with her foal?
Did a dinosaur give Cain and Abel a ride?
Did a whale swim in Eden’s big pond?
Did an elephant tread through the garden’s green grass?
Was it peacocks of which they were fond?
Did Eve choose a little fox, all of her own?
Or a leopard: so smooth and so sleek?
Did she train a young zebra to walk by her side?
Or keep a small deer, by a creek?
A lion? He’d bite! A rhino? Too sharp!
Can you imagine that choice? What to take?
Well, I’ll bet there is one pet they wouldn’t dare choose:
In Eden there’d be no pet snake!
