Before the service I meet up with my friends, Jim, Katie and Sammy. The four of us are the singles group that worship on Saturday nights. Worship is my favorite part of the week. To me worship is the most exciting, wonderful experience! One hundred people gather to be encouraged from the prayer, the singing and the preaching. Each need of each listening heart is met.
After the service the four of us talk. For me, the part I needed tonight came with a song. It said, “Sing with me, those in need. Sing with me, aching souls.” The Lord wants to use me in an aching soul’s life this week so that they will be singing with me soon. I felt the Lord speak so plainly that He would use me if I was willing. Jim was listening especially to the pastor speaking about how important our tithe will be to us as time goes on. It’s an indicator of our trust and faith in our Savior when we live with open hearts and hands. For Katie what she heard most keenly was the verse about gratefulness. We can only please God with our giving if we do so with cheerful hearts. Sammy just sang with all his heart to the music. He ministers to me when I watch him worship.
I went home expectant of the Lord’s opportunity for me. The next day my toilet was overflowing. I tried the plunger to no avail. Water was everywhere! I called the plumber to come out and fix it.
As the plumber, a young man, Kaden arrived, I was listening to a Christian radio station which is usual in my house. While he was working on my toilet he got a look in his eyes and I realized he was listening to the words of a song that says, “I see you waste your years, I see your precious tears, Your heart needs a home, Come to Me”. I realized that this plumber was an aching soul. I wanted to be sensitive and not scare him away. It’s a delicate balance when you talk with someone about the Lord. I tend to be a little pushy. I quickly prayed, “Lord, soften me for Kaden’s sake.” I told him that I really liked the author of that song. He’s one of my favorite artists. Kaden said, “He’s very good.” I asked him if he went to church anywhere. He said he quit once he got out of his father’s house. Other things took his attention. Kaden said he relaxed better with his friends than at a sanctuary with strangers. I told him I understood how he felt. I had just moved to a new church and it’s difficult until you find friends you have something in common with. He said, “Yeah. That’s right.” I asked him if he had ever made a personal commitment to Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He said he had back when he was in Junior High. I told Kaden “I bet this is God calling you back to him. I worship on Saturday nights with a couple of friends at church. If you came now you would have a friend there, me. And not long after that you’d make your own friends. Would you like to come?” Kaden said sure. So I gave him directions and the time.
Funny how the Lord set me up. Now this Saturday there’ll be something in the service especially for Jim, Katie, Sammie, me and Kaden. And after it’s over we’ll fellowship and talk about the Lord’s unique words for our unique lives.
