Topic: Soul (07/13/06)
To whom shall I give my soul?
To whom shall I give my heart?
The Chosen believed the two were one,
Not to be rent apart.

To whom shall I give my soul,
Youthful though it be?
Who will I obey?
Who will influence me?

Methinks my soul is mine to give
To whomever I wish.
Just another part of me.
Is that so very selfish?

Two suitors stand before me now,
One Lover and one liar.
To which one will I bow?
The choice: Heaven or the Fire?

I can only bow to one.
I cannot have two masters.
The one I choose will hold the key
To all my everafters.

I know the One who loves me
Gave His own Son for me.
That I might live forevermore
In his blessed Eternity.

Yet the liar tempts me so
His pursuit persists.
God lets him wrestle with my soul.
Sometimes I fight with fists.

But then there are the other times
I so want to give in
To lust and greed and gluttony
How attractive is the sin!

But then the Lover of my soul
Through his Good Word sheds light.
“My child, even satan serveth Me,
For I have won the fight.”

The rhythm flounders a bit at times, and other times it is perfect; however, the message comes through loud and clear...and it speaks to the Reader's soul. Thank you.

Very good poem. I loved the opening two stanzas. The questions mingled in. Good rhyme and meter. The last 2 stanzas need a little tweaking to flow like the others. But overall, fantastic job!
