A haunting presence stood outside the door of my mind. It was dimly trying to form. It’s eerie and subtle communication was at first totally hidden from me. Waiting, waiting with infinite patience for that slip to come was the being that now was forming. How could he be so devious and know exactly what would open that small crack in the door of my will power and desires. Like a wolf at the door was the presence, but there was no announced howling or obvious knock—no, that would not be the way that such a creature insidious mind would function. A formidable enemy was just outside my mind, just waiting for that weak moment—that flaw that would open the door for entrance into my being.
Totally oblivious to the possible enemy lurking as a hungry lion outside my door, I looked up at the man who was next to me. He was standing a little too close and had been quite friendly of late. No thought of any harm was in my mind. I was reaching into my consciousness for something to help me. I was almost certain that this man would approach later with a proposal of infidelity. My thoughts turned to those broader avenues. “He is quite handsome came the unwanted comment. He is quite a bit more of a flatterer and seemed to have a way with words that were very alluring in a strange way,” came the thought. My heart skipped a beat, but just for a second.
Suddenly, my eyes opened wide and, to my horror, resting a blackened smoky hand on the shoulder of the man was a figure so frightening in its immensity and darkness that I stifled a scream. My crack revealed the tempter himself in all of his evil beckoning to anyone not carefully protected by the armor of God.
Quickly and quietly I told the man with the evil presence beside him, “”Good-by, I must really go.” And I did just that! I literally ran to my car and drove off.
“Oh, God, thank you again and again for saving me from this evil being and thoughts that could have ruined my marriage and me.”
Beware the crack. Keep alert and ready with God’s word and his power. Satan lurks in the most innocuous cracks waiting to enter.
