Topic: Dead End (02/06/14)
Who does not know the exhausting experience of searching for a location only to find that the street you thought would take you there suddenly stops and there is nothing to do but to turn around? Even worse is the road that continues without giving a clue that it will not take you where you wanted to go.

There are several descriptive names by which this speaker is known and one of the is, "Queen of the Turn Around."

Lost, it would seem, should be my middle name. It is a heavy burden to be one who cannot find the right way to go. That is why I give myself at the least one and one half hours to travel a distance that should take thirty to thirty-five minutes when it is my first trip there. I need time for the turn-around(s).

So you see, I have learned to accept my deficit, and I have learned how to appear successful without anyone being aware that I am a directional klutz; I do after all arrive either on time, or early.

The Dead Ends, as I see it, are not the real problem; the real problem is those roads that are not clearly marked which go on and on bringing one to a destination not intended.

When I was in my middle twenties I returned to the town in which I had lived when I was in high school. I did not drive a car when I lived in that County previously, so familiarity with the roads was not in my memory.

I drove to Southern Pines to shop for a new outfit because I had an exciting evening planned. My high school sweetheart had asked me out to eat supper. I made certain to leave Southern Pines in plenty of time to get to my apartment to get gussied up.

At this time in my life, being a new driver, I had no understanding that I was severely directionally challenged.

Confident of my plans for going home I took a road that went on and on, and when I finally got to somewhere, I was at Fort Bragg with no idea how to go back home, or anywhere else for that matter. I found a phone and called my intended Date; "How did you get there!?"

Honestly, I could not tell him how; all I knew was that I had taken a wrong road.

In my opinion it would be good if we had more "Dead End" signs and better marked roads, they are much kinder than those roads that do not tell you that you are going in the wrong direction.

For that very reason I want my family, and my friends, and you, to know and to respect the Ten Commandments, because they tell us when we are on a wrong path, or a right path. Some Commandments place an X across the path, "Do not walk this way, there is danger on this path." Some of the Commandments give us the ->, signaling that this path is one on which you will find blessings.

Ten Commandments Ave. won't take us to Heaven, but it will make us aware that we are directionally challenged, causing us to see the need to turn around when the road is the wrong one.

I do not want to travel a life time and then find that I arrived at an unintended destination. My intention is to go to Heaven.

None of us intentionally miss going to Heaven; but are we on the road that will take us there?

John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no man comes to the Father except by Me."

Some of us have had similar experiences of going the wrong way, even when we have had directions that should have pointed us the right way. If we follow the teachings of Jesus and keep His commandments, we stand a good chance of going the right way. You have managed in your writing to give the reader a sense of your confusion as to which way to take. But you did end with the conviction that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

I can relate to the "directions" story, I cannot read a map, and always get lost. But, I'm never lost with Jesus, and your story clearly demonstrates the same thing! This was so good!
