I’ve lost the song I sung
So happily, blithely and courageously
Standing shoulders to shoulders with fellow believers--
Singing so strong
Carried with the throng--
The music was electrifying
The strength of my heart undenying..
But in the stillness of the night
When darkness grows like Columbus clouds
Black with cares
Heavy with toils
Looming in the shadows of loneliness
My song has frizzled to a moan
Tormented with mounting anxieties..
My song struggles to find its form.
As my anxieties gather strength,
Dancing their dance of dirge
Like a war dance of ancient times
They advance steadily, with ugly masks of accusation
In drowning beat of threat and doom,
I’m afraid I’ve lost my song.
In the darkness, my heart weeps,
For the One who will swoop me up from my writhing form
In the darkness, my heart discern a familiar beat
Quietly, patiently, the beat goes on…
Waiting for an echo…or a stir.
The tune persists, louder and louder
A rhythm from the Lord Himself
He’s my Song in the night,
If I’ll embrace Him against the angry tides.
He stands ready to lead me
In the everlasting song of joy…
And not only to sing, yeah,
But to dance a resounding triumph of rounds,
Over my now fallen heaps of shame.
