“Good morning, Mary Ann. How’s your little boy?
“Thanks for asking, Ellie. He’s better, but not well. Thank goodness that my mother-in-law can keep him. It’s so hard to work when you have little ones.”
“I’ll pray for him.”
“Morning, Kelly, I’m going to get coffee. Can I bring you one?”
“Ellie, I could sure use some! Big meeting in ten minutes. Two creams, one sugar. Thanks!”
Johnson, Davis and Clark arrived at the same time. The meeting probably. Mr. Davis looked her way, and Ellie was sure she blushed to her toes. He was one fine looking man. She forced herself all day, every day not to stare at him. He was a mile above her league, and she didn’t want waste her dreams on the impossible.
Thank goodness that she was only an Assistant and not an Executive Secretary to any of the big bosses. If she were, she would have to take notes in their meetings. She was perfectly happy just meeting the needs of whoever gave her an assignment. It was her strong belief that though she worked for Johnson, Davis and Clark, her true boss was the Lord. She knew that if she did everything to please Him that she would please others.
At four o’clock, Ellie glanced up and saw Mr. Davis coming toward her desk. Much to her shock, he stopped and spoke. “Ellie, I have another meeting in a few minutes, but could I ask you to come to my office at three o’clock tomorrow. I’d like to talk to you about an upgrade in your job.”
Stunned, Ellie stammered, “Sure, Mr. Davis, I’ll be in your office at three.”
Ellie could hardly think or function for the rest of the day. All evening she prowled her apartment and in bed, she tossed and turned the night away, beating her pillow. The next morning she was extra careful with her dressing, her hair and her make-up.
“Oh, God, please don’t let him ask me to work with him. I don’t think I could handle being around him that much. Please, God, I don’t want to make a fool of myself.”
Murmuring, “Oh, God” under her breath all day, she forced herself to concentrate on her work. The clock crawled its way toward three o’clock. When it was time, she stood to her feet and walked slowly toward Mr. Davis’ office.
He saw her through the window and opened the door for her. He pulled up a chair for her while he perched on the edge of his desk. “I’ve been watching you, Ellie, and I like everything I see. I know just the job for you. The only problem is it’s at my friend Jake’s business up on the fourth floor.”
Ellie’s hand flew to her mouth and a sob gathered in her throat. “You don’t want me to work here any more? Have I done something wrong?”
Thomas Davis chuckled, “None of that is true. You are one of the best employees I’ve ever seen. The problem is we have nepotism in our company.”
“I know what nepotism is. That is when two people from the same family can’t work at the same place. We certainly not related. I don’t understand.”
“No, we’re not related, but I’d like to change that, Ellie. I don’t want to be your boss; I want to be much more to you than that. I want to date you, and I hope that will lead to…” He said with his hand outstretched. “That would be awkward here.”
“That’s impossible! You’re somebody and I’m nobody!”
“If you’re nobody, you are the most wonderful, kind, loving and beautiful nobody I’ve ever seen. When our eyes meet, I know you feel something too! I can see you are shocked! Tell you what, you think about this tonight and tell me tomorrow if you want me to make you an appointment with Jake.”
As Thomas passed her desk the next day, she said, “You have a message Mr. Davis.”
She handed him a note that read “YES, make me an appointment!”

In the beginning you forgot some end quotes and it was difficult to follow who was talking.
The ending, though slightly predictable was really sweet. I loved how you showed her anxiety. The message if we work to please God we will please others is a powerful one.
Good writing! And I am not just saying that.
