“And I don’t understand how you can believe that women have no rights over their own bodies! The Supreme Court certainly did not see it your way!”
“You are right about that! What a mistake they made in Roe vs. Wade! Do you realize that 53,000,000 innocent babies have been slaughtered in the last 39 years?”
Mary Jo turned her back on her husband, Donald. “There you go with the slaughtered/murder tact that you always fall back on. What part of blob of tissue don’t you understand?”
Donald sat down at the table and put his head in his hands. “I wanted to marry you, I really did! But someday when the doctor tells you you’re pregnant, are you going to tell everyone that you are pregnant with a blob of tissue? Of course not! You’ll tell everyone that ‘Donny and I are going to have a baby.’”
Mary Jo grabbed her purse. “You’re not playing fair! I’m going to work. This afternoon I’m going to have an opportunity to see a sonogram abortion!”
Donald shook his head. “And you’re looking forward to that?”
Mary Jo left without a backwards glance.
“Oh God,” Donald moaned, “How are we ever going to make this marriage work? How can I spend every day with a woman who, though she doesn’t participate in abortions, supports them in what they do?” Donald picked up his backpack and headed for his college classes.
He returned about 2:30 and threw himself on the couch, still troubled by the discussion he had with his wife. Puzzled, he raised up to see who was coming in the front door at this time of day.
“Hey Babe, what are you doing home so early?”
Mary Jo didn’t say a word; she just rushed into his arms, sobbing bitterly. Shocked, Donald held her gently until she could calm down. This was not like the tough woman he had married.
Finally, she was able to speak. “I saw the abortion! And, oh my God, it was a baby! They lied to me! That was not a blob of tissue! It was a baby who was moving and kicking his arms and legs!
“And then…Oh God, I’ll never forget it! The doctor put a pliers-like instrument into the uterus and used it to grab one of the baby’s legs. He twisted the leg off, and the baby reacted, obviously in pain. Then he did it again and again and again. He was explaining all of this to me as he did it. I was in such shock that I could say a word or even leave.”
Mary Jo covered her face with her hands, obviously back at her office, seeing this again.
“Oh,” she moaned. “He snapped the baby’s spine and crushed its skull. He began removing the pieces, one at a time. It was the nurse’s job to reconstruct the baby to see if all the pieces had been removed. How could she? Oh God, how could she do that so calmly How could that doctor look at that dismembered baby and without a tinge of regret, pull off his mask and wash his hands?”
“When I could finally leave the room, I went to the bathroom and threw up! Next, I went to my desk, typed my letter of resignation and cleaned out my office.
My boss was furious when I handed her my resignation. Angrily, she said, “Because of you, we’ll never, ever be able to show another employee an abortion. How could you be such a coward?”
“And how could you lie and tell people that what is so obviously a baby is just a blob of tissue!” I turned on my heel and left that dreadful place.
Donald rocked Mary Jo, nuzzling her neck as he did so. “I am so sorry that you had to see that, and yet, I’m thrilled that you saw the truth! Now you can work with me on pro-life causes. Our disagreement has become agreement because the truth does not lie! That’s why we are working so hard to make the doctors show sonograms of their babies to the mothers. Someone said, ‘If there were windows on wombs, there would be no abortion!’ Soon, that will come true.”

I watched a documentary on TV showing exactly what you described. It has never left my mind. How anyone can argue that there isn't "life upon conception" is beyond my understanding.
Great job with this. Thank you for having the courage to write this piece.
God Bless you~
Careful not to comment on your own story as the whole idea is to stay anonymous so the judges can be objective.
You might want to do a search on how to write and punctuate dialogue properly. You had some missing quotation marks and your quote within a quote should have had single quotes.
Also, be careful about using exclamation points. A good writer can write with strong enough words to get across the idea that the speaker is yelling without exclamation points. Sometimes they are called for, but pretty rarely.
You did a good job of sharing the realities of abortion. I worked at pro-life clinic years ago. We always tried to get women to hear the heartbeat at ten weeks to help them realize there really was life in there.
Nice job. Keep writing!
