It’s sad but tales like this are what today’s world is all about. All over the world people are hurting and angry, and they probably have good reason to be angry. Some folks have gone through so much that they’re angry with people around, they’re angry with themselves and some are even angry with God.
Surely ‘offences’ will come our way and it’s human to get angry. But there are five reasons why you shouldn’t let anger bore a hole into your heart. I call them: “the foolishness of anger”.
1) Sometimes were angry with people who don’t know that they’ve hurt us
Sometimes we get upset over stuff that was not intended to offend us. Other folks are having the time of their life, and you’re letting anger eat away at the fabric of your heart like a cancer. Don’t let nothing steal the joy God has given to you. When people offend you, tap into the wellspring of God’s joy. Refresh yourself continuously and enjoy life. Anger is a design of the enemy to steal you’re joy. Don’t let him.
2) In anger we fail to see our own inadequacies and as a result we hold people up to standards, we ourselves are not able to attain.
How unfortunate! You’re angry with someone else for doing stuff, that’s sometimes not as bad as our dirty list. When the enemy wants the sun to go down on your anger always remind yourself that:
- You’ve hurt others
- You hurt God so bad on the cross
- God forgave you, and refused to deal with your sins in anger.
3) Anger isolates us from the ones we love
Wives feel disconnected from husbands. Husbands feel distant from their wives. The communication dies, giving way for an erosion of the foundation of love and trust. Some families are at the breaking point, just because somebody is angry. Angry at stuff that happened at work. Angry at little stuffs. These are couples that look so happy to the rest of the world, but suddenly we hear they’ve separated. And the next we hear is a story of a nasty divorce, filled with stories of 17years of petty stuff, which got each other angry. He said, she said…he did…she didn’t do…
PLEASE STOP!
4) The earth won’t stop rotating on it’s axis just because you’re mad at someone or something
Some folks in the third world blame the west for all their problems. Some folks are angry because they feel that they’ve being looked down upon because of their race, gender, size, looks, you name it.
At the risk of sounding callous can I remind you of a simple truth: ‘life goes on’.
All you can do is accept what you can’t change and change what you can. Your destiny is in God’s hands. Stop being angry at the system. You’ve got the power to change the course of your life.
5) When we’re angry we usually do something dumb
When we’re angry, odds are we’ll do or say stuff we’ll later regret. It happens all over and over again. Like the husband who hit his wife and pleads over and over again ‘I won’t do it again’. If you don’t deal with the rage you will.
Anger is a deadly evil. It can be a hindrance to living out the best of what God has ordained for you. James admonishes us concerning anger: “…do not become angry easily, because anger will not help you live the right kind of life God wants” James 1:19-20 NCV
So if you have to be angry, try not to sin.
