Years passed, and God saw how disgusting the people on earth were and that everything they deliberated and considered were evil. And He decided that He would wipe out every living being on earth by causing a massive flood. But Noah he wanted to save, because he was the only one who lived right and obeyed Him.
The Lord told him to do the impossible. He asked him to build a boat, the length of which would be one and half football fields, and a height of a four story building. And as God wanted a sturdy boat, He guided Noah from procuring the correct wood to telling him the exact measurements.
Noah built the boat over a platform on a high ground for two reasons. First he had to do a thorough job to pitch it within and without with pitch, to make it water proof. Second he had to have a dry area around the boat till the last day before the rains strikes, as he had to move over 45,000 animals and double the number of birds into the boat.
God told Noah to pack seven pairs of clean animals and birds, and two pairs of unclean animals and gave him seven days to rearrange them according to their height, weight and feeding habits. The heavy ones like the elephants, lions, tigers and giraffes would occupy the bottom part, and the deers, buffaloes, sheep and goats the second level and the birds, Noah and his family on the third level. The happiest of all would be the squirrels, rabbits, dogs and cats which have a very good time chasing each other through all the three levels.
Noah was six hundred year old when he went into the boat and six hundred one, when God told him to leave it.
And that year God made a rainbow.
The rainbow, symbolizes God’s promise that never again will a flood do such massive destruction, and that He would always ensure that the earth’s order and seasons are still preserved. The rainbow will be visible when it rains, a sign that God will keep His promises.
