such power they hold!
They can make us happy
or break our hearts
Words can heal or hurt.
They can bring
us together
or tear us apart.
What words can I
use today to bring peace?
How can I be mindful
of what I say?
Words can do many things. I have heard people say, “Oh, they’re just words. They don’t mean anything.” I respectfully disagree. We have all had times when we had a hard day, and someone said just the right words to lift our spirits.
We may have worked with people who felt emptiness and pain. The only way they could relate to the world was through anger or hateful demands. Even though we understand their situation, the words felt hurtful.
How can we be aware of our words and how they affect others? First, kind words come from being at peace with ourselves. If we are at peace with ourselves and realize the power of words, we can actually verbalize positive and encouraging thoughts. If we have a mindset of wanting to bring hope to others, we can be helpful and not a stumbling block. We are able to impart kind words daily to the people we met.
How can you be positive with others today? How can you think about the words you are saying? Having the desire to be kind will help. Observe each person you see. Listen to what they are saying and reflecting beyond words. If you think someone is having problems, you might want to ask how they are feeling. If someone has worked hard and seems to need encouragement, let them know you appreciate the work they have done. There are many different ways to use words for hope and encouragement.
Tonight, as I go to sleep,
I think of the words
I have said today
I focused on others, and felt
surprise at how my words
were appreciated.
The smiles I received in return
made me feel
better about myself
It made me feel positive
and I congratulated myself
on encouraging others
My words were
spoken with
mindfulness and care
I sang a song today
filled with words
of hope!
