I do not think being run through with a sword could be as painful as a careless, mean hurtful letter. Wounds from a sword heal in time, but carelessly written words can destroy a person. The scars from written words never heal and with our minds we have instant recall. We can relive those moments over and over again, and it still tears us apart, especially if the letter was from someone we never thought would do such a thing.
After we calm down and stop crying we can be just as hateful, nasty and ugly as the writer of the letter, because we write in-kind. Tit for tat, and that is so sad. Awe, that we were like Christ who stood silent as a lamb before the shearer, but we spew such vile language that it is a miracle it doesn’t combust when the postman touches the letter. “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18. No truer words have ever been written. God is so wise.
The pen we use is extremely powerful and can make or break people, but there are written words that’s so awesome we cannot fathom there power. All of our great books that have been penned will not last, but in Matthew 24:35 it says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
In Hebrews 4:12 it says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
In my opinion the written word of God, although many men were led by the Holy Spirit to put pen to paper, is the mightiest book ever written. It can and will withstand any and all things man can bring against it. To me that pen is the mightiest, sharpest pen to ever exist and no sword can stand against it. Now that is what I call the pen of all pens and God is the only one who can use it.
