Grrr! I hate when I can't think of something or I get stupid, silly ideas. You ever write a really bad story or poem and submit it late at night when you're half sleep. Later you read it when it shows up on the post and you're like, “oh my Gosh, please tell me I didn't write that!”? How embarrassing, especially, after they choose a winner and then your name shows up with the poem or story. You're like, “can I delete that.”
Sometimes, I write, just to submit something to that topic, you know. Just to make a contribution, not hardly to win. Then there's the grammar, spelling and the right way to write and all that stuff. It's like gnats flying around you when you're trying to write from unction, or divine inspiration. You're enjoying writing the story but annoyed at the thought of going back through and trying to get it correct. Some people enjoy editing, proofreading and all that stuff. Yuk! It makes me go “Grrr” when I have to look back over my work and start fixing it.
And you know what really makes me go “Grrr?” It's when you've written the perfect story, article or poem and you love everything about it. Then you do the word count and your like “Grrr!” I'm 100 words over the limit. So you go back through the story and start trying to cut sentences and paragraphs and by the time you're done, the story or poem stinks. You don't even like it no more. Grrr!
It's far better to try to stay under the word limit than to go over it and start trying to cut back. At least to me it is. Speaking of going over the word count. I better do a check right now. Oh, I'm still good.
Oh and you know what else I hate. It's when, again, you write late at night and submit it. Then when it shows up in the current writings you start to notice all the mistakes you forgot to correct. Like when you meant to write “write”, but instead you spelled it “right”. Or you meant to write “there,” but instead you spelled it “their.” That's, especially, embarrassing when in your section about the author, it says you use to teach ESL overseas. Grrr! Yea, well I finally took that part out in my section about me as an author. That's too embarrassing for all the mistakes I make. I try not to humiliate myself. I don't know why I'm spilling it all out in this writing though. I just put missions there instead of ESL teacher since that's what we were really doing overseas.
Despite all the things that make me go “Grrr,” I really like writing. I enjoy the writing challenges cause they make me write, just to submit something. Else I can go months or even years without writing cause I'm just too busy. But writing is part of who I am. It's me coming out. I know I need to write more. It's a gift that needs to be opened, cause write now (right now, caught that one), it's roughly wrapped and not many can see what's hiding beneath the sloppy wrapping paper.
I hope one day to glorify God through my writings, also to be a witness and to encourage His people. Grrr! I'm almost past the word limit. I'd better stop. Actually, I'm glad to stop here cause, basically, I'm done. Blessings y'all. I know... How can I submit something like this? But hey... It's me.
