Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Does it mean someone who is old enough to have a baby is an adult? A ten-year old girl can birth to a baby. But that does not mean that she is old enough or mature in experience and life lessons to raise a baby to adult maturity herself.
Proverbs 4:10-13
“Hear my son and receive my sayings,
And the years of your life will be many,
I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hindered,
And when you run, you will not stumble.
Take firm hold of instructions, do not let go;
Keep her, for she is your life.”
What is the right age to be declared an Adult? My husband was raised in the Roman Catholic faith. He has told me that when he was 13, he was confirmed in the Roman Catholic doctrines and beliefs and the Bishop told Richard that he was now a man.
Proverbs 4:23
“Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.”
We now live in the age of “emancipated teenagers.” The government is willing to recognize and state that a teenager under the age of 18 can be considered an adult, when normally a young person must be 18 to be an Adult. Regardless of whether the teenager has finished school, knows how to drive a car, do his/her own laundry, keep a checking account or know how to do a thousand other adult things. The government will make its own wise decision in the matter. After all, the government has decreed that one must be 18 to vote; join the military; be an adult; get married; and sign contracts.
Ephesians 6:1-4
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
“Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”
The United Nations wants all countries around the world to sign onto the Rights of the Child Treaty. For any country, that signs off on this ‘treaty’, parents lose the right to raise their children in the way that they think is best and children are allowed to do as they wish and the government becomes the parent.
When I was young, my mother frequently quoted the following scripture verse to me. Needless to say, at 8, 9 and 10 years old, I did not appreciate what the meaning of this particular New Testament verse. I just thought Paul the Apostle was annoying for giving my mother biblical ammunition to use against me when I was mad at my parents, the world, etc. Now as a mother myself, I find myself quoting the same verse to my daughter, when she is being obstinate and unruly.
The Apostle Paul states in I Corinthians 13:11 --
“When I was a child, I spoke as a child,
I understood as a child,
I thought as a child;
But when I became a man,
I put away childish things.”
