“No, what would you like for Christmas?” the older man responded.
“I want a Mickey Mouse watch,” Danny said, with a wide toothy grin that would steal a heart.
“Now,” his grandpa tried to explain, “I wouldn’t have the slightest clue where to find one of those.”
Danny continued, “But, that’s what I want.”
Hank was thankful that he would have plenty of time to search for this huge request. It was only the beginning of September and he was sure that in all of his travels, he would be able to find this treasure. It was not that easy. There were watches of every kind. It seemed as though the watch factories were trying every type of style and cartoon figure to entice the market. Hank was getting worried.
Finally, after many shops and many miles of travel, Hank located Danny’s request and purchased the Mickey Mouse watch. He also knew that he would not be in his grandson’s home town until Christmas arrived. So, he decided to wrap the gift in a small box and then wrap that box in a bigger one. By the time he had finished wrapping the watch, it was buried in a layer of six boxes. On the outside of the main box, Hank had written a message, “Do not open until Christmas!” He mailed the box to his grandson.
The box arrived at Danny’s home just after Thanksgiving. When Danny saw the note and who the gift was from, he said, ”It’s a Mickey Mouse watch!”
The usual Christmas festivities came and went and Christmas Day had finally arrived. Danny tore into the big box. He hardly looked at the next five boxes as he ripped the Christmas paper from each of them and got to the last box. His eyes were wide with excitement. He was yelling with glee. At last, he opened the last box and pulled out his Mickey Mouse watch. “I knew it! I knew it!” Danny exclaimed.
His parents were amazed. “How did you know that gift was a Mickey Mouse watch?” they asked.
“Because Grandpa loves me and he wouldn’t give me anything else!”
Our Heavenly Father gave the greatest gift of all. He didn’t wrap his gift in fine linens or gold tapestry. He wrapped him within a stable and gave Him to anyone that would receive him. Why, because He is our Heavenly Father and wouldn’t give us anything else.
