“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” His voice continued but the woman didn’t know if he was reading more scripture or making a point. She paid little, if any attention as her mind went to wandering.
“Excuse me Father,” she tentatively approached.
Yes, my child.
“I just have one question about that. How come You dropped stitches when You were knitting together my lip and palette.”
I make no mistakes so how could I have dropped stitches?
“Well isn’t that what they call it when they make a mistake knitting? I don’t know. All I know is I was born with gaps in my garment.”
I made no mistake. Those gaps made you unique and they were repaired, were they not?
“Well yes, by doctors. I would’ve rather been made whole in the first place. You know they’ve operated 4 times and I still have a hole in my palette and although sewn together, there’s still the scar on my lip.”
Well of course there is. Nothing can compare to My work but think of what the experiences they brought meant to you.
“Huh?”
You’re working on your memoir are you not?
“Well yes.”
Doesn’t one of your favorite memories of your earthly father take place in the hospital?
“The poor guy was scared something had happened to me!” She cried.
Because he treasured you.
“Yes, he did. But that’s beside the point. I think you could’ve made me whole. I would’ve found another memory to show my father’s love. Do you know how hard this has been on me? The surgeries, the speech therapy—all that hard work and I still got teased.”
But it made you who you are. Think about how you cope with your feelings.
“I write. So, lots of people write. It’s not like I purposefully chose the written word because the spoken word was inferior.”
Maybe and maybe not.
“So somehow, all this was planned and nothing was hidden from you?”
Yes, including that you would choose this time and place to dwell on questions; the answers for which you’ve been seeking for a long time.

I find it very moving and intimate, a review of questions
held from childhood and an understanding Father leading her toward acceptance and expectation of what else He has in store.
