Topic: Memory (07/10/08)
Most trips require some degree of advanced planning. This usually involves hotel and car rental bookings, approved time off from work, spending money and packing. In fact, the checklist of things to do can be quite extensive. However, taking a trip down memory lane requires no preparation at all and can occur wherever you happen to be at that particular moment.

Memories often surface without warning and can be triggered by endless factors such as sights, sounds, images, smells, seasons and emotions. In fact, memories can flood the mind no matter where you are or what you happen to be doing.

An example of the power of memory is one minute you could be at work engrossed in many tasks and the next minute your mind has transported you to back to five years ago when you spent an idyllic vacation lounging on the sandy pink beaches of Bermuda located thousands of miles away. This could be a sign that you really do need to take a break and revisit the island you once fell in love with.

Thoughts of the carefree life of your childhood can pop into your mind, especially when you are faced with the many challenges that come with being an adult. Memories of spending the summer having fun camping with friends offer a brief escape from the realities of the present.

Watching a talk show that shows the antics of a school tyrant can trigger your own playground memories of when you were the daily target of the class bully. Although painful memories of those events occurred decades ago they still cause knots in your stomach today.

In a strange twist even happy memories can make you sad. This is especially true if you are mourning the loss a loved one. It is inevitable that something will happen that will remind you of a happy time when your loved one was still alive. In an instant that happy memory can actually make you sad. The key to coping with this is learning not to dwell on the sadness.

Memories will always be a part of our life and God is the only one who can help you to overcome the sad and unpleasant things that you have seen, heard, felt, and experienced.

The next time your mind happens to wanders down the path of an unpleasant memory and you begin to wonder if you will ever survive, put your trust in a loving God who can teach you how to ride out the wave of sad memories and help you focus or the happy future he has prepared for you.

I like your title, it fits this piece so well. I 'wandered' through this just enjoying the feel and the detail tucked inside. Nicely done! ^_^

You packed a lot of wisdom in a few paragraphs. I liked the part about even good memories bringing up sad feelings. Good job.
