revel in the sight.......at last!
eyeliner, flattering to pronounce
their crystal hue, while lashes flounce
The lips, now shiny, glossy pink
curl shyly up, as if to think
what lucky placement! Up so far!
What a brilliant pair we are
the nostrils, powdered, sniffing slow
the fragrant air, the easy flow
(not always so, sometimes in quick
and desperate need of subtle pick)
the heart beats strongly, stately, proud
it's rhythm measured, thudding loud
importance shown by doctor's attention
the first to be checked, so worth a mention
but...
the humble upper gut today
is feeling rather not okay
something eaten – spices cooked
some heating limit overlooked
awkwardly twisting, writhing now
the juices turning rather foul...
the process grows and gathers speed -
one part's problem is the body's need
the eyes catch a paler facial tone
the lips start fading, turning down
the nostrils catch a sniff of – smell
signalling that not all is well
The warning sounds, the inner urge
prompts dire action, it must purge
and help this humble hideaway,
in such pressing need today.
The feet do listen and rush to aid
the eyes quick-measure, the hands obey
the throat swallows liquid, ignoring taste
all work to help this tube of waste
The calming down, the burning cools
the throat relaxed, saliva pools
the steady teamwork, focused, swift
all helped the churning acid shift
If the body had not listened,
only preening those who glistened
all would have suffered, paid the toll
for not functioning as a whole
so Eyes, and Hair and humble Gut
Important? Unimportant? But
we need each other, lest we fall
remember the One who holds us all
