THE MOVING FINGER

“The moving finger writes,
and, having writ, moves on.
Not all thy piety nor wit
can lure it back to cancel half a line.”

So begins the “Rubaiyat” by Omar Khayyam, Persian mathematician, astronomer and poet. I have always been fascinated by the imagination and creativity of others and more so of how skilfully some people could write. I had hoped that by reading a voluminous number of books, I would attain to that revered height of being a supreme author, wanting to be read by many. Fear of putting pen to paper and being found wanting led me to reading more and more. The hope was that I would eventually develop the expertise I needed to write a good book, even a best seller.

Eventually, after lots of jottings here and there, without anything really coming to fruition, I took a hint from my son. He suggested that now that I was on the internet, I could possibly find a Christian-based organization to write for. He had more confidence in me than I had in myself. I realized God led me to this site at Faithwriters. I found it immediately after his suggestion. I now had the opportunity to write Challenge and regular submission articles without anyone knowing me personally.

This venture was very therapeutic for me. I was truly excited and exhilarated to be able to embrace this new pursuit. My heart was full of song as my fingers danced over the keys. I was happy now that I had the chance not only to use words, but to share the Word of God with others. I got the opportunity to write about things that were on my mind, things that I would not talk to anyone about. The written word cannot be twisted or exaggerated or omitted to suit someone’s purpose like the spoken word. The written word can stand the test of time, whereas people forget what you have said, they may think you are lying and so give you a bad name. For years I have been taken for someone else, someone whose behaviour was unbecoming. The only thing I could do was to pray about it and, as a result, I was led closer to God.

A better understanding of God’s Word meant reading the Bible more fervently. I listened to the various pastors, whom I must credit with explaining so many things in the Bible that I could not understand before. I read books and other material that dealt not only with Scripture, but with what God wants from us, how we are to live our lives. I was most interested in what was said about Healing, having suffered with a sinus condition for most of my adult life. Not only did I pray about getting healed, but I followed some of the advice that I heard and read. The “Power of Your Words” by Gossett and Kenyon cautioned that I must not keep saying negative things or have negative thoughts. I should boldly affirm “With His stripes I am healed” and “I can do anything in Christ who strengthens me” which I have been doing for the past few months.

Would you believe it? God has healed my sinus problem. I am not sneezing, nor am I having a runny nose. So those of you out there take courage, God still works miracles. He heals. Therefore, I give thanks and praise to His glorious name.

I continue to write so I can encourage others who feel downcast, depressed and discouraged. I feel happy when someone reviews my work and says he/she needed to hear such and such a message. Thank you God for inspiring me to write and for having let my son suggest it to me.
