My husband is seeking a pastorate and it isn’t easy. First of all you have to find out about the vacancies. Then you have to get information about the churches. Then come the application forms and then comes the wait – the long wait – to hear what they have to say. I find the second stage fascinating – not just what the different churches, but what they emphasise and what they leave out.
Some talk a lot about the area their church is in. We even had one that named all the local golf courses and how far away the d.i.y. store was. We have had rhapsodic descriptions of the manse and nothing said about the church building – and vice versa. We have had churches where something is going on every night and others where there is just one service on a Sunday and a mid week meeting every two weeks. We have had churches with a balance of members and others where there is a preponderance of one age group or another. Some honestly admit their difficulties and others mention only the good points. Some have strict rules for membership and one said ‘If you’ve been born you are in our family!’
Finally there is the bit that says ‘What we want in a pastor.’ Some churches say that they realise that no one man is perfect at every thing. Others seem to expect a combination of Mother Teresa and Superman. One little church just said they wanted someone who would sit down with them once a month over a coffee.
I’ve got a better idea. It is like perfect pasta. Get good quality ingredients in the first place.( A person, with all their faults and foibles whom God has called to serve Him) Cook well in hot water ( the interview) and then mix with your favourite ingredients (the church, the gospel and the community. Serve.

The first paragraph would be more powerful without the 2nd person references.
Blessings on your husband as he continues to seek his "pasta-rate!"
